The newly elected central committee of the Purbanchal University (PU) Employees' Union has been administered the oath of elected positions and confidentiality, in a program organized by the election committee on Sunday.
In a program chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Biju Kumar Thapalia, the newly elected president Rupesh Basnet, vice-president Kopila Khadka, general secretary Surendra Kumar Yadav, secretary Komal Prasad Gautam, treasurer Bodhnath Khadka, and members Bodhraj Niraula, Anita Rajbanshi, Tulsi Prasad Baral, Rambabu Yadav, Kabin Dahal, and Anu Karki were administered the oath of elected position and secrecy by election committee coordinator Narayan Prasad Dahal.
The newly elected officials and members were congratulated and wished success in their tenure by Vice-Chancellor Thapalia and other officials.
The group led by President Basnet was elected in the election held on the 17th Jestha 2082 BS.
According to the union’s statute, the term of the newly elected executive committee will be three years from the date of the oath-taking.
Addressing the program, Vice-Chancellor Thapalia, expressed hope that the newly elected leadership of the employees’ union would positively contribute to the academic and physical development of the university.
He emphasized that all stakeholders should unite with a positive mindset to work toward the academic and administrative advancement of the university.
“There are many good things happening in the university,” he said, “Good work should be promoted, and everyone should remain alert if anything wrong occurs.”
Saying that Purbanchal University is different from other universities, he highlighted the need for everyone to understand the provisions of the University Act and move forward in cooperation.
Newly elected president Basnet said that they would move forward by incorporating the sentiments of all stakeholders and committed that the employee union would never be an obstacle to constructive work.
Stating confidence that any problem seen in the university can be resolved through mutual discussion and dialogue, he said, “We will work for the development of the university and the rights and welfare of the working employees based on the advice and guidance of our seniors.”
In the program, Dean of the Faculty of Management Dr. Sandesh Das Shrestha, Executive Director of the Monitoring and Evaluation Center Dr. Uttam Kumar Regmi, President of the PU Professors’ Association Yagya Prasad Jamarkattel, and the closest contender for the president’s post Devi Prasad Kattel, among others, extended their best wishes to the newly elected committee for a successful tenure.
Coordinator Dahal presented the election report including income and expenditure. In the same program, all newly elected officials and members of the unit committees were introduced and honored.
The leadership of the central committee and the office, entities, and campus unit committees under PU was selected according to the decision made at the union's fourth national convention held on Baisakh 21, 2082 BS.
The convention had entrusted a five-member committee under the coordination of Chief Officer Dahal with the responsibility of conducting the elections of the central and unit committees.
